Summer time is here which means it’s time to get the roof top tent ready to adventure! Here’s 5 tips to get your roof top tent ready for summer car camping.
1. Vaccum
We know you’ve got dirt, dust, lint, and much more inside of your tent. It can build up through the years and get nasty and even smell. Each season, we pull out the mattress and vacuume underneath the mattress and in the corners. This keeps our set up fresh and ready to roll!
2. Wipe down your walls
Over the years, condensation can build up on your tent walls which can eventually lead to mold or mildew. This is a bigger issue in the rainy/colder season here in the PNW (read our post here on how to prevent mold). It’s not a bad idea to give your roof top tent some love and wipe down the interior walls every so often. We use a basic cleaning spray.
3. Wash and install bedding
Freshen up that bedding! We recommend using real fitted sheets, blankets, and pillows. It adds another level of comfort (check out our other comfort tips here). Washing them will keep your tent fresh and leaving them in your hard shell roof top tent means your ready to camp at any time!
4. Add new batteries
We use battery powered string lights in our roof top tent. They are awesome and really set the mood! We don’t want to worry about the batteries dying in the middle of a camping trip, so we freshen them up each summer. If your roof top tent uses any other batteries (a fan), be sure to swap those out too so you’re ready to adventure. Check out our lighting set up here.
5. Clean the outside of your tent
Just like us, we know you’ve got bug splats galore on the front of your tent. Much like cleaning the interior, cleaning the exterior will keep it looking nice and will help it last longer. We’ve found that hand washing is much more effective than pressure washing…those bug splats are brutal.
Thanks for reading this post. We hope it gave you some ideas how to prep your roof top tent for summer adventures. If you’re still in the market for a rooftop tent, consider ordering here. Read here on why we love ours. Life’s better on top!
