Can my Jeep Gladiator Hold a Roof Top Tent? 2022

Calling all Jeep Gladiator roof top tent lovers!  Wondering if your Jeep Gladiator can carry a Roof Top Tent? The short answer is, yes. In order to look deeper into this question you must understand a few things such as dynamic and static load ratings.

Dynamic & Static Load Ratings

• Dynamic weight means when your Jeep is in motion.  This rating is a lot lower than the static rating (when you’re parked) for many reasons such as center of gravity, wind drag, turning & weight transfer, among many others.  Since the majority of Jeep Gladiator owners mount their Roof Top Tent in the bed, the static weight limit is a non-issue unlike a Jeep Wrangler which mounts to the roof .  It is important to get a high quality rack to fit your roof top tent.   

• Static weight is when your Gladiator is parked.  This load is a lot higher than the dynamic rating because the Jeep is not driving, stopping, or turning which means the weight is not amplified by other factors.  Again, when mounting your roof top tent in the bed, static weight is also a non-factor.

There are plenty of Jeep Gladiators’s out there rocking both the pop up and fold out style roof top tents.  This is really up to you, but it is important to know the pro’s and con’s of each before making a decision. This article will help.

For me, I ultimately decided on the hard shell pop up Roofnest Sparrow due to the quick and easy set up time.  However, I’ve seen Jeeps with hard shell, hard shell fold out’s, and soft shells. Any will fit with the right rack.
