Can’t decide which Roofnest Rooftop Tent to buy?  This article will give you an overview of all Roofnest models, so you can make the right choice.

Roofnest Sparrow EYE

Price: $2,795

Pro’s:  The Sparrow EYE is Roofnest’s quickest and easiest tent to set up.  It has 2 latches and simply pop’s up on 1 side. The main window is HUGE and will give you an awesome view.

Con’s: You may lack headroom since the ceiling will be slanted, especially with 2 people.  You also won’t have windows on all 4 sides.

Who’s it for?: This Roofnest Tent is for campers who want the easiest set up and tear down possible.  It doesn’t get any simpler than this…it’s literally 2 latches, a nudge, and the gas struts open your tent for you.  DONE.

Roofnest Sparrow

Price: $2,795

Pro’s:  This is Roofnest’s most popular size.  It’s perfect for small to medium cars, much like our Crosstrek.  It has 4 latches total and the top pops straight up on gas struts. The Roofnest Sparrow has 4 large windows and has plenty of room for 2 adults to sit up, relax, and take in the views.

Con’s: This tent takes slightly longer to set up & tear down compared to the Sparrow Eye, however you gain the headroom and windows.

Who’s it for?: This is the tent we own and love it!  It is easy to set up and perfect for 2 adults.  We are both tall (6’1″) and fit great. It is also an excellent option for smaller vehicles.  You can’t go wrong with a Sparrow.

Roofnest Sandpiper

Price: $2,995

Pro’s:  The interior dimensions & set up are the same as the Roofnest Sparrow, however the Sandpiper allows you to carry gear on top of your Roofnest.  This tent can carry 100lbs of gear with the tent closed, and 50lbs with it open.

Con’s: You will be less aerodynamic with both the Roofnest & gear on top of your vehicle.  You may feel additional drag and reduced MPG’s, however you’ll be able to haul all of your toys & sleep in comfort. Keep in mind it only holds 50lbs when open, which means you may need to unload gear when setting up for the night.  You also lose 3 inches of head clearance inside the tent.

Who’s it for?:  This Roofnest tent is for adventurers who want to sleep in comfort & bring their toys along.  Bicycles, kayaks, paddle boards, or skis – the Roofnest Sandpiper has got you covered.

Roofnest Eagle (now the Sparrow XL)

Price: $2,995

Pro’s:  This is Roofnest’s largest rooftop tent.  It set’s up similar to the Sparrow, but with extra room.  The Eagle will give you an extra 6″ of width, and 1″ height. This is perfect for couples with a smaller kid or even a dog.

Con’s: This tent is a bit larger, which means slightly more wind drag and weight.

Who’s it for?:  This tent is for adventurers who want more room.  The extra space is perfect for families, dogs, and extra room to spread out.  This tent would fit great on larger vehicles.

Roofnest Falcon

Price: $3,395-$3,495

Pro’s:  The Falcon is Roofnest’s aluminum clamshell style tent.  It is less than 7″ tall which means it is sleek and aerodynamic on top of your vehicle.  It also has an optional set of crossbars to carry extra gear such as bikes or kayaks, much like the Sandpiper.  It also accessory channels on all sides to mount items such as awnings, light bars, or whatever else your set up demands.  It comes in a standard or XL size.

Con’s: Cons are similar to the Sandpiper and Sparrow EYE.  It is also more expensive than other models.

Who’s it for?:  This Roofnest tent is for explorers who want a thin, sleek, aluminum look for their rig.  If you’re looking to add accessories such as light bars, awnings, or solar showers, this is the set up for you.

Hey guys- I have. Crosstrek and I’m thinking of getting a RoofNest Sparrow next season. Curious whether you would recommend going with the XL? Do you find yourself wanting the extra room? It’s me and my partner, plus our basset hound.

Hey! Thanks for reaching out. We fit perfectly in the standard Sparrow and are relatively large (both around 6 foot). With a dog, I would definitely go with the XL. You can’t go wrong with the extra space. We recently got a puppy that loves the Roofnest. She will only get up to 15 lbs so she snuggles between us. Let us know what you decide! Cheers. -Ben & Maddie
